XV Russian criminal Law Congress “XXX years of the Criminal and Penitentiary codes of the Russian Federation: results and perspectives”

Dear colleagues!

We are pleased to invite you to the XV Russian criminal Law Congress “XXX years of the Criminal and Penitentiary codes of the Russian Federation: results and perspectives”. The Congress will bring together leading researches and practitioners, teachers of higher educational institutions in the Russian Federation, countries far and near abroad.

The Congress will take place in person at the Law Faculty of Moscow State University 28 — 29 May 2026. When registering, please indicate whether you plan in-person attendance. The Plenary Session of the Congress begins at 10 a.m. Registration will start at 9 a.m. at: Moscow, Leninskie gory, MSU, 1, 11/13, 4th academic building, 2nd floor of the Conference hall. To participate in the Congress, you must register on the portal (or use an existing account on the portal) and apply for participation in the Congress (https://lomonosov-msu.ru/rus/event/10214/). Registration begins on 20th January, 2026.

Registration and submission of the abstracts is carried out only through the website indicated above.

Congress program:

28 May 2026:
10.00 – 13.00 – plenary session
13.00 – 14.00 – break
14.00 – 18.00 – work of sections (criminal law (General and Special parts); criminology; penitentiary law)

 29 May 2026:
9:00 – 15:00 – round table on the topic: “Theory of criminal law and its reflection in the justification of judicial decisions in criminal cases”

(organized by the Criminal Legal Expertise Center of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology, Faculty of Law, Lomonosov Moscow State University, in collaboration with Criminal Law Club “De lege lata” and the editorial board of the Criminal Law Journal)

11:00 – 15:00 – round table on the topic: “The personality of the convicted person and its influence on the improvement of norms of the Russian Penitentiary Code and practice of execution of incarceration (on the 100th anniversary of the First special census of convicts in 1926)”

(organized by Y.M. Tkachevsky Scientific and Educational Center “Problems of Penal Law” of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology, Faculty of Law, Lomonosov Moscow State University);

11:00 – 15:00 – round table on the topic: “Countering crime in the digital age: expectations, illusions and reality”

(organized by Scientific and Educational Center for Criminological Research of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology, Faculty of Law, Lomonosov Moscow State University).

15:00-15:30 – summing up the work of the Congress

By the start of the Congress it is planned to publish a thematic digest with abstracts of reports from participants. Abstracts of the reports must be submitted when registering for participation in the Congress through the portal indicated above until 1st March 2026. Abstracts of bachelor or magistrate students are not accepted. After 1st March 2026 registration for participation WITHOUT publication of abstracts is possible until 15th April 2026.

Formatting requirements for abstracts:

  • 10 000 characters,
  • Times New Roman,
  • Font size 14,
  • Line spacing 1,5,
  • Footnotes (page-by-page)

There are following sections to send abstracts for:

  1. Criminal law (General and Special parts).
  2. Russian criminology in XXI century.
  3. Penitentiary law.

There are no plans to publish the abstracts of the round tables.

We ask you to adhere to the established requirements and Congress topic as much as possible. In case of non-compliance with the requirements the editorial board decides against publication.

When submitting abstracts or applications for oral presentations, we ask you to identify and specify the particular sections you intend to participate in.

Travel and accommodation of the congress participants are paid by them independently.
