Over the course of two days, enlightening lectures were held at the sites of theSaratov military Order of Zhukov Red Banner Institute of National Guard Troopsof the Russian Federation andSaratov State Law Academy (SSLA)as part of the project “Dialogue on Equal Terms” with former Deputy Attorney General of the Russian Federation, Deputy Director for International Cooperation of the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences, historian and writer, state councilor of justice of the 1st class, Honored Lawyer of the Russian Federation, and Honorary Professor of SSLAAlexander Zvyagintsev.
More than 1000 students, cadets, and faculty members of theSaratov military Order of Zhukov Red Banner Institute of National Guard Troops, Saratov State Law Academy, Saratov Orthodox Theological Seminaryand law enforcementofficers and other governmental bodies of the region participated in the lectures «Nazi and Japanese Reichs: Legal and Ideological Parallels. Challenges of Modern Memory in the Mirror of the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory.»
«The West no longer sees Nazism as a threat to civilization. From an enemy, it has transformed into an ally. Countries that once condemned fascism now support regimes that glorify its symbols and ideology, justify its crimes, and unapologetically rewrite history.
Meanwhile, the topic of the genocide of Slavs, Chinese, and other peoples stubbornly remains absent in the Western narrative. Although genocide is not limited to the Holocaust, geography, or time. ‘The crime of all crimes’ – that is how many foreign lawyers increasingly refer to genocide. Unfortunately, this evil has proven to be very resilient – Nazism has raised its head again. It seems that now would be quite appropriate to update the concept of ‘genocide’ with substantial additions and to raise the question of accountability for national-cultural genocide and its propaganda,» emphasized Alexander Zvyagintsev.
In addition, the meetings were accompanied by screenings of documentaries: «Nuremberg. 70 Years Later,» «Nuremberg. Blood Money. The Trial of the Industrialists,» «Death Lab. Apocalypse in Japanese,» and others, authored by Alexander Zvyagintsev.
«The enlightening lectures of Alexander Grigoryevich Zvyagintsev have become a vivid example of how the history of law comes to life in dialogues with outstanding scholars of our time. Holding such events is a contribution to preserving historical memory and shaping the legal culture of our youth. On the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, addressing the topic of international tribunals takes on special significance, reminding us of the inviolability of the principles of justice and accountability for war crimes. Studying the historical experience of international tribunals helps our students better understand the modern mechanisms of ensuring international security and law and order. This is especially important in the context of existing global challenges,» noted the rector of the SSLA Ekaterina Ilgova.
«As a future lawyer, I understand the fundamental importance of analyzing historical legal processes. Alexander Grigoryevich explained complex legal points clearly and showed how historical events have influenced modern law. I was especially impressed by his deep understanding of the topic and the enthusiasm with which he shares his knowledge. Such lectures inspire to get more serious about my profession and always remind me of the significance of justice,» shared Valeria Bakulina, a student of the Justice Institute of SSLA.
At the end of the lectures, autograph sessions were held with its participants, who received books authored by Alexander Zvyagintsev as a gift.
