The Union of Criminalists and Criminologists congratulates the head of the Union’s office in Germany, Professor Uwe Hellmann, on his birthday!

Uwe Hellmann was born in 1955 in the town of Lübbecke (Westphalia). He studied law at the Bielefeld University and completed higher education, passing the state exam in 1981.
Until 1986, Uwe Hellmann worked as a researcher at the department of Professor Hans Achenbach at the Osnabrück University. He obtained his doctorate from the same university in 1986. Then he worked as a researcher at Osnabrück University. Since 1992, Uwe Hellmann has been teaching criminal law, criminal procedure law and tax criminal law. After working as a visiting professor at the universities of Heidelberg, Trier, and Bochum, he moved to Potsdam University where in August 1994 he became the head of the Department of Criminal and Economic Criminal Law. Uwe Hellmann gives lectures on the general and specialised parts of criminal law, criminal procedure law, economic and tax criminal law, European and international criminal law.
In his scientific research, he specializes in the field of criminal law related to crimes against property and property crimes, economic and tax criminal law, as well as criminal procedure law. He has published textbooks on the general and specialised parts of the German Criminal Code, economic criminal and criminal procedure law. Uwe Hellmann is also working on commentaries on the German Criminal Code and the Tax Code. He is a co-editor of several series of scholarly works.
Uwe Hellmann was the dean of the law faculty, is a long-time member of the Senate of Potsdam University, and since October 2014 its chairman. He cooperates with numerous foreign universities and is a member of the scientific councils of many journals published in Russia. Uwe Hellmann is chairman of the of the Russian-based representative office of the Union of Criminalists and Criminologists.
On April 31, 2021, Uwe Hellmann retired from active service as the Head of the Department of Criminal and Economic Criminal Law and continues to hold the position of the head of the Research Center for Russian Law at the Faculty of Law of Potsdam University.
