The author’s project ‘Criminal law gatherings at N.A. Lopashenko’s’ together with the Saratov Branch Office of the Union of Criminalists and Criminologists
The Person: Professor Yuri M. Antonyan
On 10 March 2021, a regular online meeting of the author’s project ‘Criminal law gatherings at N.A. Lopashenko’s’ was arranged together with the Saratov Branch Office of the Union of Criminalists and Criminologists. The meeting was held in the person format. The event was dedicated to Professor Yuri M. Antonyan, Doctor of Legal Sciences, Chief Researcher of the All-Russian Research Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Honoured Scientist of the RSFSR, Honourary Doctor of Yerevan State University.
The event began with the Personal Questions to the Person section, in which Natalia Lopashenko conducted a mini-interview with Yuri M. Antonyan. Both personal and professional questions were asked.
Further, the organizer Natalia Alexandrovna Lopashenko made an announcement about the next meeting of the Gatherings, which will be held on 18 March 2021 in a mono format with Associate Professor M.V. Yuyukina (Tambov). The topic of the presentation is ‘The humanism of the Criminal Code: myths and reality.’ In addition, information about the All-Russian Journal of Criminology will be presented by the Deputy Editor-in-Chief Professor Anna L. Repetskaya, Doctor of Legal Sciences, Honoured Lawyer of the Russian Federation.
Professor Alexey G. Kibalnik (Stavropol) recommended for scientific work his recently published article: Kibalnik A.G., Volosyuk P.V., Ivanov A.Yu. Criminal law counteraction to terrorist crimes: the main trends of Russian dissertation research in 2010–2020, All-Russian Journal of Criminology, 2021, vol. 15, no. 1, pp. 68–81 (in Russian).
Associate Professor, lawyer Elena E. Ponomareva (Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky) made an announcement about the International Forum ‘The Edges of Law Enforcement: Environmental Protection’ to be held by the Chamber of Lawyers of the Kamchatka Territory with the participation of the Federal Chamber of Lawyers of the Russian Federation on 9–10 September 2021. The topic of Yu.M. Antonyan’s speech was ‘Causes of Crime.’
In particular, he said that causality is the basis of explanation, and it can be said that it represents the inner content of determination. The interaction between cause and effect is the transfer of a certain amount of matter, energy or information. In case of crime, it seems that we should talk mainly about the transfer of information, especially if we mean ordinary crime. At the same time, it should be taken into account that crime can always be influenced (generated) not by any one but by several reasons. Some conditions may contribute to the generation of the consequence – crime. Along with them, some other conditions that will prevent crime may also act. There is always a problem of correlation between the causes and conditions of crime, the causes of crime in general and the causes of individual criminal behaviour.
Yuri M. Antonyan answered the questions from the participants of the Gatherings:

- Professor Fyodor V. Grushin (Yekaterinburg): ‘What is your attitude to the mechanisms of post-penitentiary control (on the example of administrative supervision)?’;
- Professor Andrey G. Anisimov (Irkutsk): ‘When determining who a person will become – a criminal or a ‘socially useful’ person, is the biological or social component primary?’, ‘What criteria for the effectiveness of psychotherapy would you highlight?’;
- Associate Professor Marina V. Yuyukina (Tambov): ‘Can a person’s temperament and their desire to commit a crime be interdependent?’;
- Professor Vladimir S. Jatiev (Moscow): ‘What is the role of the state in the formation of a criminal’s personality?’
The free discussion was attended by Professor Yakov I. Gilinsky (St. Petersburg); Associate Professor Zalina M. Cheliabova (Astrakhan), Associate Professor Andrey G. Anisimov (Irkutsk), Professor Yuri V. Golik (Moscow), Professor Elena S. Steshich (Moscow), Professor Vyacheslav I. Seliverstov (Moscow), Professor Alexey G. Kibalnik (Stavropol).
