Explosion of the grave of Alexander Pushkin

On 13 July 1944, a platoon of Senior Lieutenant S.E. Popov from the 157th Engineer-Sapper battalion was killed during the demining of the grave of Aleksandr Pushkin in the Pushkin Mountains near Pskov. The soldiers found mines on the road near the monastery wall. Close to the monument to the poet. Mine clearance has begun. It turned out that new model anti-tank mines were used. The sappers had not previously dealt with them. One mine was equipped with an anti-handling device. While trying to disarm the mine, it exploded. As a result, were killed:

— the natives of Tambov Oblast Senior Lieutenant S.E. Pokidov, Sergeant I.A. Kombarov, Private I.V. Yartsov;

— the Muscovites Senior Sergeant M.A. Kazakov and Sergeant N.O. Akulov;

— the native of Arkhangelsk Lieutenant V.P. Kononov;

— the resident of Chelyabinsk Oblast Private E.O. Kozlov;

— the resident of Ivanovo Oblast Private I. F. Travin;

— Private V.S. Trenov, whose origin has not been established.
